NMC Requires Ganesh Idol Makers to Register for Licenses NMC to Enforce Actions

According to Bombay High Court Nagpur Bench and MPCB Guidelines Idol makers within Nagpur Municipal Corporation's jurisdiction are now obligated to register their names at NMC's zonal offices and acquire licenses for crafting idols.

With the goal of promoting an eco-friendly Ganesh festival this year, NMC has prohibited the sale of PoP idols and cautioned that those who violate the rules will face strict consequences. Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, Deputy Commissioner for Solid Waste Management, stated in a press release that the corporation will take action in line with the guidelines set by the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board.

The ten-day Ganesh festival commences on September 19, and worshippers are advised to install Lord Ganesh idols crafted from soil in their homes or public spaces and ensure coordination during immersion. Dr. Mahalle mentioned that zonal offices are ready for name registration and licensing, enabling the legal sale and purchase of idols.

As PoP idols are prohibited, creators must make idols from soil. NMC also notified that their team will levy a fine of Rs. 10,000 for rule breaches and pursue legal action if a case is filed in court.

Recommended 4ft Idols for Mandals While NMC hasn't specified the height of Lord Ganesh idols to be installed by Saarvajanik Ganeshotsava Mandals, immersion of large idols in city lakes is forbidden. In this context, it's advised for mandals to install 4-foot high idols, while devotees are encouraged to opt for 2-foot idols in their homes
