NMC to Seize Goods of Encroachers on Sitabuldi Main Road, Warns Commissioner

Nagpur, India: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has warned shopkeepers and street vendors on Sitabuldi Main Road that any illegal encroachment on the footpath or road will lead to their goods being seized immediately.
NMC Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari issued this warning during an inspection of the area on Wednesday. He said that strict action will be taken not just on the main road, but also in nearby lanes like Modi Galli numbers 1, 2, and 3.
Recently, a joint operation by the NMC and Nagpur Police removed nearly all hawkers from Sitabuldi Main Road, based on a Maharashtra Government order from April 2024. These vendors have now been relocated to Maharajbagh Road.
With the road cleared, new parking spaces have been created for two-wheelers and four-wheelers. Dr. Chaudhari has asked the NMC’s Traffic Department to install proper signboards to help motorists find the parking zones. He also instructed officials to take daily action against shopkeepers who display goods outside their shops and block the way.
During the inspection, Dr. Chaudhari was joined by DCP (Traffic) Archit Chandak and other senior officials from the NMC and police department. They walked from the Gandhi statue to Parekh Jewellers to check the situation themselves.
To keep the area free of encroachments, a special squad will now be stationed in the Sitabuldi market every day from 12 noon to 10 pm. DCP Chandak has also directed traffic police to take away vehicles parked in ‘No Parking’ areas to reduce traffic problems.
