NMC Transport Department Proposes Rs 597.32 Crore Budget for 2025-26

Nagpur, India: The Transport Department of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has proposed a budget of Rs 597.32 crore for the financial year 2025-26. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr Abhijeet Choudhary presented the budget on Friday, showing an increase of Rs 88 crore compared to last year.
Dr Choudhary shared the budget details during a press conference at the municipal office auditorium. He mentioned that the estimated expenditure for the transport department is Rs 596.72 crore, while the expected revenue is Rs 597.32 crore. This amount includes an opening balance of Rs 66 crore.
The commissioner highlighted that Nagpur’s transport system will soon shift from diesel to electric buses. Under various projects, around 600 electric buses will be introduced in the city. This shift will reduce diesel costs and ease the financial burden on the corporation.
A provision of Rs 170 crore has been made for the transport department in the overall municipal budget.
Plans are underway to introduce articulated buses, which will be 18 metres long and will operate on Nagpur’s ring road. A fleet of 28 such buses will be introduced, with 25 in operation and three kept in reserve. These buses will be charged using the flash method for faster charging.
Dr Choudhary informed that the tender for these buses has been issued with ISCO, and operations will begin once the necessary approvals are obtained from the central government. This initiative aims to modernise the city’s transport system and improve overall efficiency.
