No Entry for Waitlisted Passengers in Sleeper Coaches: New Railway Rule

Nagpur, 5 May 2025 – Starting from 1 May 2025, Indian Railways has introduced a new rule that prohibits passengers with waitlisted tickets from boarding sleeper and air-conditioned (AC) coaches. This move is aimed at reducing overcrowding in reserved coaches and improving the travel experience for passengers with confirmed bookings.
According to the new guidelines, waitlisted passengers can only travel in general unreserved class coaches. Those attempting to board sleeper or AC coaches without a confirmed ticket will face penalties, and in some cases, may be removed from the train.
This decision follows increasing reports of overcrowding, particularly during peak travel seasons, and complaints from passengers regarding uncomfortable travel conditions in sleeper class coaches.
To address the rising demand for tickets, Indian Railways has introduced special trains on certain routes. However, these services are operated at premium fares, which has raised concerns among passengers about affordability.
Passengers are advised to ensure they have a confirmed ticket before boarding reserved coaches to avoid any inconvenience or fines.
