Open Gunfire as Robbers Target Grocery Merchant in Kapil Nagar

Anonymous criminals, aiming to rob a grocery store owner, opened fire in Babadeep Singh Nagar, situated under the jurisdiction of the Kapil Nagar police station. Despite 48 hours passing since the incident, Police have yet to capture the perpetrators.

The victim, Pankaj Shambhawani, operates a grocery shop at Kabir Nagar Square in Kapil Nagar. Around 10:30 pm on January 16, as Pankaj was closing his shop and preparing to leave with his parents, he placed a bag in front of the store. At that moment, two individuals on a motorcycle arrived, snatched the bag, and attempted to flee. Pankaj, witnessing the robbery, attempted to intervene. One of the robbers brandished a pistol, forcing Pankaj to the ground. Shouting for help, Pankaj tried to chase the robbers.

Responding to Pankaj's cries, two nearby individuals on a motorcycle pursued the robbers. In response, the criminals fired shots and managed to escape.

Upon being informed of the incident, the Kapil Nagar police arrived at the scene. Initial investigations were not thorough, and the police, seemingly dismissing the severity of the situation, questioned Pankaj's claim that the gun used by the robbers was fake.

DCP Niketan Kadam intervened and instructed a more comprehensive investigation. The police discovered a homemade pistol at the scene, leading to the registration of a case under the Arms Act.
