Rs 750 Crore Set Aside to Accelerate Wardha-Nanded New Railway Line

A budget of Rs 750 crore has been given to speed up the progress on the Wardha-Nanded new railway line project. The Central Railway is directing these funds towards the second phase, connecting Yavatmal to Nanded. This extension is expected to benefit the Yavatmal-Nanded region by incorporating them into the railway network, providing a new route to Mumbai via Latur. The initial leg from Wardha to Yavatmal is nearing completion, while the second leg has seen a successful land purchase, with bridge construction underway at an accelerated pace.
The funding includes Rs 450 crore from the capital fund and Rs 300 crore from the Railways' Safety Fund for the new route. The Construction Organisation of Central Railways is handling the Wardha-Yavatmal stretch, while Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) is overseeing the Yavatmal to Nanded section. The Railway Ministry has earmarked substantial funds for various ongoing projects, emphasizing the importance of the third and fourth lines on the Wardha-Nagpur route.
These new lines aim to alleviate congestion on the Indian Railways' high-density network, facilitating the movement of coal, iron ore, and passenger traffic on key routes like Howrah-Mumbai and Grand Trunk. A budget of Rs 125 crore is assigned for the third line on the Wardha (Sewagram)-Nagpur stretch, covering 76.3 km, and Rs 120 crore for the fourth line, with both lines progressing simultaneously. The focus is on completing the Ajni-Khapri section to enhance operational efficiency on this critical route.
Additionally, funds of Rs 100 crore have been allocated for the Bhusawal-Wardha third line, spanning 313 km, and Rs 320 crore for the Itarsi-Nagpur third line, covering 280 km. Notable ongoing projects also include the development of a Satellite terminal facility at Ajni railway station, with Rs 75 crore earmarked in the budget.
The South East Central Railway's (SECR) Nagpur Division also receives attention, with Rs 305.90 crore allocated for the ongoing 3rd line on the Rajnandgaon-Nagpur route. This initiative aims to address congestion issues caused by the high-density movement of coal. Additionally, Rs 150 crore is set aside for the Wadsa-Gadchiroli route in the mineral ore-rich Gadchiroli district, fostering development in the former naxal hotbed. Other allocations include Rs 40 crore for the last phase of the Gondia-Balaghat-Katangi route, Rs 50 crore for the Chhindwara-Mandla Fort Gauge Conversion, and Rs 10 crore for smaller projects on the Chhindwara-Nagpur route, along with Rs 30 crore for the 4th line on the Rajnandgaon-Dongargarh section.
