Six Arrested for Killing Tiger in Gadchiroli

the Forest Department in Gadchiroli has apprehended six individuals linked to the illegal hunting of a tiger. The perpetrators were also found in possession of the tiger's body parts that had been severed. Following their arrest, all six suspects were presented before a Judicial Magistrate and subsequently remanded to three days of custody in the forest.

The arrested individuals include Pramod Madavi (29), Sunil Usendi (28), Dilip Usendi (28), Prakash Halami (42), and Chetan Alam (25), all residents of Maregaon Toli village, as well as Nileshwar, a resident of Mohatola village.

The incident of tiger poaching came to public attention on October 24 in the Amirza forest area within the Chatgaon range of the Gadchiroli Forest Division. The discovery of the tiger's head and three paws removed from the body raised significant concerns. The Forest Department launched a thorough investigation, leading to the identification and arrest of the six accused. While the tiger's head remains unaccounted for, efforts to locate it are ongoing.

Investigations have revealed that hunters had set up electric wire traps initially intended for wild boar, inadvertently leading to the tiger's electrocution. There is currently no evidence of a connection between the accused and organized tiger poaching rings, according to Forest Department sources. Further inquiries are being conducted under the supervision of ACF Sanket Wathore, guided by Deputy Conservator of Forest Milish Datta Sharma.
