Son of Maharashtra Official Accused in Hit-and-Run Case on Girlfriend

A woman endured severe injuries in a distressing incident where her boyfriend, Ashwajit Gaikwad, allegedly tried to run her over with his car near a Thane hotel. The incident occurred on December 11, and Ashwajit is the son of Anil Gaikwad, the Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation.

Recounting the ordeal on her Instagram profile, Priya Singh revealed that she had met Ashwajit around 4 am on December 11 for a family function after receiving his call. Upon meeting him, she noticed unusual behaviour and requested to speak with him privately.

Priya explained that he was accompanied by a friend who began insulting her. When she asked him to interfere, Ashwajit allegedly started assaulting her.

“My boyfriend slapped me, tried to choke my neck, I tried to push him away. He bit my hand, hit me, pulled my hair, and his friend out of nowhere pushed me to the ground,” narrated Priya Singh on her Instagram. She stated that she ran to his car to retrieve her phone and bag, and that's when Ashwajit instructed his driver to run her over. After running over her legs, they fled the scene, she further described. “My right leg is broken, and I had to undergo surgery, had to put a rod in my right leg. I have bruises all over my body, my arms, my back, and my stomach area are deeply scraped,” shared Priya. She mentioned that she had been in a relationship with Ashwajit for four-and-a-half years.

Following the incident, she attempted to file a case at the Kasarwadavli Police Station in Thane. However, she alleged that the station personnel refused to register the case, purportedly under pressure from higher authorities. Subsequently, after sharing her ordeal on social media and attracting public attention, a case was eventually filed at the same police station against Ashwajit Gaikwad and two others, including the driver, under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 279 (rash driving), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and other relevant sections under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Priya Singh is presently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. She claimed that Ashwajit’s friends have been threatening her and her sister for filing the FIR. A senior police official refuted the woman's allegations, stating that the police registered the case as per media reports. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and no arrests have been made thus far.
