The NMC budget of Rs. 3267.63 crore was presented by Radhakrishnan

Radhakrishnan B, the Administrator and Municipal Commissioner of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, recently presented a budget of Rs. 3267.63 crores for the financial year 2023-24. The budget has emphasized developmental works and has not proposed any property tax hike. Additionally, concessions for rainwater harvesting, solar panels, and composting will continue for the next year. Property taxpayers who pay online will receive a rebate of 5 per cent.
The budget includes a number of highlights such as the establishment of a sickle call Day Care Centre, free treatment at Panchpaoli Maternity Home, repairs for gardens and road dividers (Rs. 20.50 crore), new gardens and beautification of squares (Rs. 10.22 crore), proposed immersion tanks for large Ganpati idols (Rs. 4.74 crores), and insurance for sanitary workers.
Other significant allocations include Rs. 40 crore for internal roads, Rs. 16.66 crore for tarring, Rs. 10 crore for filling ditches, Rs. 10.50 crore for Electric Department Utility Shifting, Rs. 1.50 crore for beggars' rehabilitation, and Rs. 10 crores for the maintenance of temporary stay homes for the homeless. The budget also provides for six new English medium schools, repairs to existing school buildings and libraries, and a Rs. 1 crore allocation for a dog shelter.
The NMC is also preparing to purchase new buses, including 250 electric buses, upgrade the fire brigade and housing for firefighters, purchase a hydraulic ladder, and build smart toilets. Plantation and providing tree guards are also part of the budget plan, along with the provision of parking spaces at various locations.
