Three Arrested for Selling Fake Gold Coins in Amravati

Tehsil Police in Amravati have apprehended three individuals for allegedly defrauding a 39-year-old man of Rs 1.50 lakh by selling him fake gold coins.

The accused have been identified as Dadarao Sitaram Pawar (65), his son Rahul Dadarao Pawar, and Ishwar Anna Pawar (25). They hail from Sadguru Ward, Navi Basti, Badnera, Amravati district, and are natives of Khamgaon.

During the arrest, the police recovered 1,140 brass coins coated with a golden polish, weighing 880 milligrams each, along with Rs 65,000 in cash, two cellphones, and other materials valued collectively at Rs 1.22 lakh.

The incident unfolded on February 4 when the victim, Raju Ramdhar Verma (39), was approached by one of the accused, who claimed that his wife had discovered a cauldron containing two kilograms of gold coins while digging in an agriculture field in Wardha. After gaining Verma's trust, the accused offered to sell him the gold coins.

Verma, convinced by the authenticity of the coins, purchased four of them from the accused for Rs 1.50 lakh. However, upon verification by a jeweller, it was revealed that the coins were fake. Verma promptly reported the incident to the Tehsil Police, leading to the arrest of the accused trio within 24 hours.

The case has been registered under Sections 420 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, and the investigation is being conducted by a team led by PI Sandeep Bua, API Shashikant Musale, ASI Anil Thakur, and other senior police officials.
