Travel Time Between Mumbai and Nagpur to Drop to 8 Hours with New Expressway Completion

Nagpur, India: The second phase of Mumbai Metro Line 3 and the final leg of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway are expected to be inaugurated on 1 May 2025, marking a major milestone in Maharashtra's infrastructure development on the occasion of Maharashtra Day.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is scheduled to visit Mumbai for a separate event, is likely to officially inaugurate both high-profile projects.
The second phase of Metro Line 3 covers a 9.6-kilometre underground route from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Acharya Atre Chowk. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has completed the mandatory inspections, and the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) is now awaiting final approval to begin commercial operations.
Simultaneously, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has completed the final 76-kilometre stretch of the Samruddhi Expressway between Igatpuri and Amane in Thane district. With this, the entire 701-kilometre expressway connecting Mumbai and Nagpur will become fully operational, reducing travel time between the two cities to approximately eight hours.
The twin launches are expected to significantly boost connectivity and ease travel across Maharashtra, highlighting the state’s push towards modern, high-speed infrastructure.
