Twelve ROBs Dedicated to the Public as Part of the Plan Announced by Gadkari

The Union Ministry of Transport has pledged its support to the Maharashtra Government in its efforts to remove barriers at railway crossings throughout the state. The plan involves the construction of Rail Over Bridges (ROBs) at a cost of Rs 16,000 crore, which will be funded by the Central Road Fund (CRF). This announcement was made by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari at the Bhoomi pujan ceremony for a new six-lane cable-stayed ROB at Ajni on Saturday. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde joined the event via video-conferencing.

As part of the plan, a total of 12 ROBs with a combined cost of Rs 904.40 crore were dedicated to the public or had their bhoomipujan performed at the ceremony. These included a six-lane ROB on the Nagpur-Nagbhid railway line on National Highway-353, a two-lane ROB on Borgaon-Khandala MDR, a two-lane ROB on Nagpur-Kalmeshwar road, a two-lane ROB at Alagondi-Borkhedi, and a two-lane bow-string ROB at Revral-Nandgaon. Additionally, six ROBs with a total cost of Rs 266.4 crore had their bhoomipujan performed at the event, including projects on the Amravati-Badnera road, Badnera-Amravati section, Amravati-Nimbhor Road, Arvi Road on Amravati-Narkhed section, Wani-Warora road, and Majri-Pimpalkhuti section Yavatmal road. The cost of the six-lane cable-stayed Ajni ROB is Rs 333 crore.

Union Minister Gadkari also announced new works worth Rs 500 crore in Nagpur city and district from the Central Road Fund (CRF). These projects include the construction of a subway at Zero Mile, concretization of roads from Mangalmurti Square to Jaitala last bus-stop, Zingabai Takli to Awasthi Nagar Square, Airport to HB Town Estate road, and Shatabdi Chowk to Manish Nagar Square road, as well as improvements to the Borgaon Square-Gorewada road, Mahari Plywood to Bhende Layout road, Shankarpur-MIHAN road, Chinchbharan road, Butibori-Umred road, and Bela-Thana road.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that the Maharashtra Government plans to construct around 100 ROBs in the state within a year. He also stated that bus stations across the state would be modernized to resemble airports, starting with the Nagpur bus station. The details of this project were not provided.

Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recalled that the existing British-era ROB at Ajni was constructed in 1927, and announced that the first phase of the new ROB at Ajni would be completed in 14 months. Once the three-lane side is constructed, the old bridge would be demolished and work on the other three-lane side would commence.
