A driver of a truck carrying what appeared to be illegally mined sand attempted to run over a female official on Sunday morning after she and her colleagues captured eight such trucks while checking in Maharashtra's Nagpur district, according to an official.
An incident happened when revenue department officers were inspecting vehicles to prohibit the transfer of sand that had been mined illegally around 60 km distant, near Ghotitok hamlet on the Mansar-Tumsar national highway. Vandana Savrangpatte, the sub-divisional officer in charge of revenue, and her crew initially stopped a few swiftly driving trucks in Ramtek. After an examination, eight trucks that were filled with sand were placed under arrest, the official said.
The official said that later, the driver of another vehicle attempted to run over SDO Savrangpatte, who narrowly avoided being hit, as the revenue personnel tried to stop it.
The SDO and her team were chasing the truck when a Nano car got in the way. According to the official, the residents even attempted to damage the revenue workers with a hammer and iron rods. Sections 307 (attempt to kill) and 353 (attack or use criminal force to impede public officers from fulfillment of their duties) of the Indian Penal Code have been filed, according to the official.
