Every Day, GMCH Performs Over 600 Free Diagnostic Examinations

For the diagnosis of illnesses, sonography, X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs are required. Certain groups undergo these tests at a reduced cost at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), which is very beneficial for general patients and the underprivileged. Every day, some 600 free tests are completed here, offering a lot of support.
Sub-district, rural, and primary health centers offer free sonography and X-ray services. Furthermore, free sonography, CT scans, and X-rays are given to people who fall into different categories: Below Poverty Line (BPL), veterans, freedom fighters, MLC, sickle cell SS pattern or thalassemia patients, Ashramshala students, impoverished patients, and hospital staff at Mayo and GMCH.
Every month, GMCH performs more than 13,000 X-rays and more than 6,000 sonographies. Furthermore, MRIs and CT scans are also carried out. Every day, GMCH performs MRIs on fifteen to twenty patients, giving priority to those who are critically ill or have been admitted to the hospital. As such, normal individuals have to wait 15 to 20 days to have an MRI, whereas sonographies and CT scans usually require a five to ten-day delay.
A plan has been set up to purchase new equipment for CT, MRI, and sonography for the Super Specialty Hospital, which is connected to the GMCH.
