Illegal Slaughter Racket Busted in Nagpur; 570 kg Beef Seized, Five Held

Nagpur, India: In a major operation targeting illegal beef trade, Nagpur police arrested a well-known butcher, Abdul Vakil Qureshi, along with four associates, and seized 570 kilograms of beef from the Gaddigodam area on Monday. The raid was conducted by Unit 2 of the Crime Branch following a tip-off.
The crackdown took place at a residence in Kasai Mohalla, where police discovered beef being illegally processed and stored. Authorities also rescued 15 animals believed to be kept for slaughter.
Those arrested include Abdul Vakil Qureshi, Aisa Nawab Qureshi (44), Chand Ahmed Qureshi (52), Najeem Ahmed Qureshi, all residents of Gaddigodam, and Kalim Ansari of Mominpura. The group faces charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Maharashtra Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act.
Police have handed over the seized meat and rescued animals to Sadar Police Station for further investigation. The operation marks a strong step by the city’s law enforcement against illegal slaughter activities and highlights the need for continued vigilance to prevent such crimes.
