Nagpur Police seized 108 kg ganja worth ₹27 lakh at Chikhli Chowk, Two arrested

Nagpur: In a major crackdown on the city's drug network, Kalamna Police seized a massive 108 kilograms of ganja at Chikhli Chowk on Tuesday, June 4. Two men were arrested in the operation, which was part of the ongoing 'Operation Thunder' led by Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal.

According to officials, the ganja, estimated to be worth ₹27 lakh, was being smuggled from Odisha and transported via Raipur in a six-wheeler truck. It was caught in the act of being transferred into a black SUV near Mata Mandir, close to Chikhli Chowk.

Police said the action was based on a specific tip-off received late on June 2. A team led by PSI Santosh Kumar Ramlod and officers Ravikumar Shahu, Pradeep Pawar, Mangesh Lohi, Sandeep Dhale, and Santosh Pandey laid multiple traps from HB Town to Chikhli Chowk. Although the first overnight wait yielded no results, fresh intelligence on June 3 helped them zero in on the vehicle around 4 PM.

The arrested accused were identified as Avinash Dhoke of Yashodhara Nagar and Palash Wankhede from Suryodaya Nagar. Both attempted to escape but were quickly apprehended. Six large bags of ganja were recovered from the SUV. In addition, police seized the six-wheeler truck and the black SUV used in the transfer, together worth ₹16 lakh, taking the total seizure value to approximately ₹43 lakh.

Addressing the media, DCP Niketan Kadam confirmed that the ganja had originated from Odisha and was likely meant for distribution across various districts, including Nagpur. “Preliminary investigation shows the accused are repeat offenders. Their mobile phone data is being examined to identify more people involved, including local peddlers and interstate suppliers,” he said.

Kadam added that no Naxal links have been found so far. “However, the investigation is in early stages, and we are exploring all angles,” he stated.
