Nagpur, India: In a push to improve community infrastructure and promote healthy living, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) have launched a joint initiative to redevelop several major grounds across the city. The move aims to create modern, accessible spaces for sports, recreation, and public gatherings.
The redevelopment project includes the upgradation of key playgrounds and open spaces, transforming them into multi-use community centres. Facilities such as jogging tracks, open-air gyms, multipurpose courts, children’s play areas, and improved landscaping are being planned as part of this urban renewal.
One of the standout developments under this scheme is the proposed construction of Nagpur’s first-ever adventure park at the Lata Mangeshkar Garden in Surya Nagar. The park is expected to include zip lines, climbing walls, rope courses, and other adventure-based activities, appealing to fitness enthusiasts and thrill-seekers alike.
The total estimated cost for the adventure park is ₹7.5 crore, with ₹4.5 crore allocated for civil infrastructure and ₹3 crore for the installation of sports equipment and adventure facilities.
City officials said the initiative is aimed at not only boosting sports culture but also offering residents more vibrant and inclusive public spaces. The projects will be rolled out in phases to minimise public disruption and ensure quality work.
Local residents have welcomed the move, expressing hope that these improved facilities will encourage greater participation in physical activities and serve as safe spaces for families and children.
The NMC and NIT have also invited public input to tailor the redevelopment according to the specific needs of each locality, ensuring the grounds serve as true community assets in the long run.
