NMC Faces Criticism for Incomplete Demolition of Unauthorized Constructions in Nagpur

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) didn't tear down most of the illegal buildings in Nagpur. They were supposed to, but they only got rid of 1,368 out of 9,000. This means around 85% of these unauthorized buildings are still standing, even though the court told them to take care of it.
The NMC said in a paper they gave to the court that they didn't do a good job in knocking down these buildings. They were told to take down more than 9,000 illegal buildings, but they only managed to destroy a small number of them - just 15%. Last year, in April, the NMC told the court that they found 1,544 illegal buildings. They gave notices to these buildings, saying they had to be destroyed according to the law.
The Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) Chairman also gave some information. He said they found 4,675 illegal buildings in their area. They managed to take down 602 of them. They also found 3,019 illegal buildings in a place they look after, and they sent notices to take them down.
Recently, there was a meeting on July 11. Important people like the Municipal Commissioner, Collector, NIT Chairman, and NMRDA Commissioner talked about this problem. They said they'll work on removing the illegal buildings, but because of the rainy season, they couldn't do much for houses. The judges in charge of this case said they'll talk about it again on August 23.
This all started when someone named Ajay Tiwari complained in court. He said that the NMC, NIT, and NMRDA gave permission for houses to be built, but didn't stop them when they built more stuff that they weren't supposed to, like using parking spaces for something else. The court told a person named Apurv De to help with this case.
Tiwari said that the officials made people living in these buildings promise that they would destroy the extra parts. But nobody did it, and the officials didn't do anything either. The court told the NMC, NIT, and NMRDA to work together and stop these illegal buildings. They made a group called the Joint Supervisory Committee to do this job. This group is made up of people from these organizations, and they're supposed to make sure illegal buildings are taken down.
