Nagpur, India: A sudden and intense spell of rain lashed Nagpur on Tuesday evening, causing widespread disruption across several parts of the city. The unexpected downpour, which began around 7:30 PM, brought traffic to a standstill, triggered waterlogging, and resulted in temporary power outages in multiple areas.
The rain was accompanied by strong winds and lightning, forcing commuters—particularly two-wheeler riders—to scramble for shelter under shop awnings, flyovers, and bus stops. Roads in several localities quickly turned slippery and waterlogged, adding to the chaos during peak traffic hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a red alert, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds of up to 70 km/h. Despite the alert, the intensity and timing of the rain caught many residents by surprise.
While the rain lasted for only about half an hour, its impact was significant. Traffic movement was severely affected, with slowdowns reported on major routes including Central Avenue, Wardha Road, and North Nagpur corridors. Power supply was interrupted in areas such as Sakkardara, Dharampeth, and parts of East Nagpur.
Civic authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and follow weather advisories as further spells of rain are expected in the coming days. No casualties or serious damage have been reported as of now.
