Strong Opposition to Issuing Kunbi Certificates to Marathas

In Vidarbha, various Kunbi community organizations have strongly voiced their disapproval of granting Kunbi community certificates to members of the Maratha community. This opposition was made evident when several branches of the Kunbi community joined forces to submit a letter of criticism to the district collector on Thursday.

In response, a decision was reached during a society meeting to hold an "Elgar" meeting on Friday, during which the strategy for the movement will be outlined. There is also a possibility of forming a "Sarva Shakhiya Sangharsh Samiti" (All Branch Struggle Committee) at this conference.

Notable organizations participating in this opposition include the Akhil Kunbi Samaj Nagpur, National OBC Federation, Multipurpose Tirle Kunbi Samaj, Bawane Kunbi Samaj, Khaire Kunbi Samaj, Sant Tukaram Maharaj Jayanti Seva Samiti, Kunbi Sena, Khedula Kunbi Samaj, Khaire Kunbi Social Reform Society, Lonare Kunbi Samaj Multipurpose Samaj Mandal, Sant Tukaram Maharaj Working Committee, Multipurpose Khaire Kunbi Vichar Manch, and Kunbi Samaj Sangathan. Together, they submitted a memorandum to the district collector expressing their opposition to the initiative.

Following this, all the associations convened for a society meeting. To determine the course of their movement, a meeting of these associations has been scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. at the Akhil Kunbi Samaj, Vitthal Rukhmai Mandir, Nawabpura, Juni Shukrawari Road.

Prominent figures such as former minister Sunil Kedar, former MLA Ashok Dhawad, Janrao Patil Kedar, Purushottam Shahane, Naresh Barde, Anant Barsakde, Duneshwar Arikar, Sushma Bhad, Avantika Lekurwale, Arun Verhade, Vamanrao Yewale, Parmeshwar Raut, Raju Mohod, Prakash Kalbande, Manohar Awari, Ganesh Nakhle, Dadarao Dongre, Sharad Wankhede, Harishchandra Bonde, Baba Dhoble, Baba Tumsare, Suresh Konge, Sharad Wankhede, Ramesh Raut, Sridhar Nahate, Bala Shingane, Ravindra Deshmukh, Suresh Varshe, Manohar Phuke, and others attended the meeting.

Representatives of the Kunbi community clarified that their opposition is not against the Maratha community receiving a separate reservation. However, they strongly object to the state government granting Marathas OBC quota reservations by issuing them Kunbi certificates. If this decision is not reconsidered, the Kunbi community has declared its intent to join other OBC groups in staging protests, including calling for a Maharashtra Bandh to emphasize their demand.
