Beltarodi Police Detain Habitual Offender Under MPDA to Prevent Further Crimes

Nagpur, India: In a strong move to curb rising criminal activity, Beltarodi Police have detained a notorious history-sheeter, Rohit Pandit, under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act.

Pandit, known for repeated involvement in extortion and violent offences, was earlier booked for threatening a bar owner in the Manish Nagar area. He allegedly demanded a monthly payment of ₹10,000 and forcibly took a beer bottle from the establishment. The complaint led police to take swift legal action.

Given his criminal history and threat to public safety, authorities submitted a detailed proposal to invoke the MPDA Act, which allows preventive detention of habitual offenders. The proposal was reviewed and approved by senior officials and the District Collector.

This is not Pandit’s first encounter with serious charges. Police records indicate multiple prior cases of extortion, assault, and intimidation. Officials stated that his detention is aimed at preventing further disturbances and protecting local residents and businesses from criminal intimidation.

The action is part of an ongoing crackdown on repeat offenders in Nagpur. Law enforcement agencies are increasingly turning to preventive detention laws to maintain public order and safety.
