Beware! Fake e-Challan Links Circulating Online, Warns Nagpur Police

Nagpur, India: Cybercrime authorities in Nagpur have issued a warning to the public about a rising wave of fraudulent e-challan messages designed to trick people into revealing personal and financial information.

Scammers are sending fake traffic challan notifications through SMS, WhatsApp, and email, claiming that the recipient has violated traffic rules. These messages often contain links that resemble official portals, urging users to pay fines immediately. However, the links redirect to bogus websites or download malicious apps that can steal sensitive data, including banking details and one-time passwords (OTPs).

In some cases, users have unknowingly downloaded harmful APK files disguised as official government apps such as “mParivahan.” These files install malware on smartphones, granting hackers access to the victim’s phone activity and information.

Officials are reminding citizens:

  • Do not click on links from unknown sources, especially those ending in ".com" or ".in" instead of the official ".gov.in" domain.

  • Always verify e-challan status directly by visiting echallan.parivahan.gov.in.

  • Avoid downloading unofficial apps or APKs claiming to be government-related.

  • Report suspicious messages immediately to your local police or via the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.

Genuine challans will always include accurate details such as your vehicle number, date and time of the offence, and a link to a verified government site.

Authorities are continuing to track and shut down these fake websites and urge citizens to remain vigilant to prevent falling victim to such digital traps.
